Equality planning

Under the Non-Discrimination Act (21/2004), the authorities have a duty to foster equality purposefully and methodically in all they do, and alter any circumstances that prevent the realisation of equality. To fulfil this duty, they must draw up an equality plan.

Equality planning training for authorities

The Ministry of the Interior organised training for the authorities in various administrative sectors in the spring and autumn of 2010. Events were held around Finland, including Rovaniemi, Oulu, Varkaus and Helsinki, and were attended by more than 200 local and state authorities.

New general recommendations for equality planning

According to the recommendations issued by the Ministry of the Interior to the state and local authorities, the plan must be concrete and its realisation must be capable of being monitored effectively. The recommendations focus, not so much on the drafting of the plan, but more on how it is put into effect and monitored.
